"Do you know which way it is?"
His wife nodded straight ahead.
He drove straight ahead.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"You said 'straight ahead'."
"I never said anything."
"You nodded straight ahead."
"I did no such thing."
"I said 'do you know which way it is?' and you nodded."
"Yes, I nodded. I did that because I knew which way it was."
"So which way is it?"
"You should have turned right back there."
