“Nobody
believes in us anymore,” protested the leader of the party.
Apathy was
at a new high in the moribund political world. His unelectableness didn’t help
either.
“Enough’s
enough. Promises mean nothing.” He banged a fist on the table to accentuate the
statement.
The
assembled members sat in silence and bobbed their heads like wind-up toys.
“Now they
will see the real us.”
This was met
with applause. They all knew what he meant.
He received
a standing ovation as he peeled the skin from his chin and over his forehead,
revealing the reptilian visage beneath.
